Ockford-Godalming had a "Craft Session" recently when Cheryl showed members how to make a beautiful floral arrangement for Christmas. We were shown how to create a lovely display using hard-backed books - acquired from the charity shops!
Ockford-Godalming presented our knitted poppy wreath to the war memorial on Remembrance Sunday.
It was a beautifull sunny morning. The wreath was created by our members and is recycled.
Made with love.
On Wednesday 1st October we held our Autumn Exhibition
Our talented members displayed a variety of craft work at our meeting which showed many talents. It was very inspiring to see what members had created and inspirational too. It included a patchwork bedspread which had taken years to complete. There were framed cross stitch pictures, beautiful knitting for premuture babies, "fiddle mats" for sensory experiences, wonderful post-box 'toppers' which were fascinating and very detailed! Flower arrangements, an embroidery section with a particularly beautiful cushion cover of garden birds, and many other fascinating handicrafts. With the photography display we had some beautiful poems to read. Most delicious was the plum jam to sample!
Thank you to our memers for their support. We also had an interesting talk by Angie Leach the Co-Chair of Surrey WI Federation. A lovely afternoon.
We had a very interesting outing to Godalming Museum for our August meeting. Sue gave an interesting talk about the life of Gertrude Jekyll, who spent most of her life in Surrey, latterly at Munstead Wood . Not only was she a notable plantswoman, running a garden centre but also a talented painter, photographer and writer as well as a Suffragist. Godalming Museum has many of her notebooks and her garden drawings, with some of her paintings on display.
Well worth a vist.
Some photos of a summer afternoon in the museum garden having a delicious afternoon tea in beautiful sunshine. A beautiful afternoon enjoyed by all.
We had a very successful session creating beautiful 'dragonflies' with Helen's help.
See the photos below!
We had a lovely visit to Windsor recently where we had a tour on the "Duck" which was very calming once we were waterbourne travelling at 4 miles per hour! There were great castle views. We then moved on to Runnymede where we visited 3 separate memorial sites and a walk of 3km! It was a super day with very good weather.
The Monument can be found on top left where the signing of the Magna Carter took place. The gate was crafted by 2 young offenders in memory of President JK Kennedy and on the right a picture of WI members sitting on 'the Duck'. A great day out!
Ockford - Godalming WI took part in the Community Day on Tuesday at St Marks & All Saints Primary School. We were there to promote our WI, by displaying some of our facinating archives from 1948 which visitors loved reading. We had various craft activities available such as working with wool and ribbon weaving. This patient young man made a wool pompom.
